Extremely rare 19th Century Saddle Rack by Musgrave and Company of Ireland
Extremely rare 19th Century Saddle Rack by Musgrave and Company of Ireland
Rare mid to late 19th Century pitch pine saddle rack or horse by Musgrave & Co Ltd.
This fine example features an angled and hinged top and one removable wrought iron tack tree. One end features a door and enclosed cupboard with the other end being a bank of three long drawers.
The carriage consists of original casters to one end blank stops to the other, a pair of hinged handles allows the movement of the rack (a bit like a wheelbarrow) to be moved around the tack room.
Both angled wings drop down and sit on wrought iron articulated stays that allow the saddle rack to be a functional working bench (for saddle repair) or as maybe a breakfast bar or even a cocktail bar, you choose?
By reputed equestrian makers Musgrave and Co Ltd, Belfast, London and Paris
Musgrave & Co produced some of the finest saddle racks of the Victorian period and were sold to to furnish stables and tack rooms of the English gentry and members of European aristocracy.
Presented in fantastic near original condition with a glorious finish. Some evidence of its previous working life, a few repairs, some knocks and bumps as to be expected and all that very much adds to its appeal, we think!
So use it in the tack room….use it as a kitchen island, or maybe just cocktails on a Friday night?!
One thing is guaranteed.. you’ll be the only person lucky enough to have one like this…
Dimensions: 43” (110cm) tall x 43” (110cm) long x 23” (58cm) wide, add 12” (30cm) per angled flap when they are open to its overall width
